Airport Earth Day 2015


A few weeks ago, we reported on Earth Hour at the Airport in a prelude to Airport Earth Day. This week, we’ve rolled up some of the more interesting and involved Airport Earth Day celebrations for April 22, 2015.

Orlando Airport (MCO) celebrates Airport Earth Day

MCO Airport Earth DayMCO celebrated Airport Earth Day in a number of ways. First, the airport put on contests and giveaways for its guests, including prizes and food from 10AM-2PM on April 22 in the ARTport on the 3rd level of the main terminal. It also included an appearance by the Bag Monster and Can People to entertain the youngsters.

Then, the MCO shops collective, manager by Westfield, got together to offer with great specials for Airport Earth Day exclusives. Denver International Airport (DEN) celebrates Airport Earth Day

This year, DEN included a number of initiatives to demonstrate its support to conservation and awareness. The Airport Earth Day celebration at DEN included educational booths located in the main terminal, where passengers could stop by to learn, enter contests, and receive free gifts, such as a small model airplane that, when planted, decomposes and sprouts into plants from the embedded seedlings! DEN Earth Day - AirplaneDEN has done a lot in the past to show its commitment to the environment, including installing water bottle filling stations, deicing fluid recycling systems energy efficient LEDs in the parking lots. And, one of our favorite parts of DEN was also highlighted during the Airport Earth Day celebration – the beautiful artwork and paintings on display at the Mangelsen gallery, many with nature and Earth themes.DEN Earth Day Mangelsen

Riga International Airport (RIX) celebrates Airport Earth Day

In Riga, Latvia, RIX set up greenhouse in honor of the “Greenhouse Effect” project. The aim of this project was to generate discussions on global warming and sustainable consumption. Guests can visit the greenhouse to learn about climate change, global warming, sustainable consumption and development. Different environmental materials, art, and musicians were also on hand as part of the Airport Earth Day celebration organized by “EuropeDirect” information centre in Riga, in collaboration with the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Riga International Airport.

Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) celebrates Airport Earth Day

ACY announced an expanded effort to reduce its carbon footprint with upgraded public trash and mixed recycling containers in public areas.
Additionally, ACY has incorporated green-certified cleaning products and the use of efficient LED lighting. The airport also ran a nice Twitter campaign reminding guests that every day should be Airport Earth Day. #EarthDay
