Airport Festivities

This holiday season, many airport festivities were to be seen (and a few more coming), just like last year. Here’s a roll-up of some of the best airport festivities witnessed this holiday season.

Best Holiday Airport Festivities in 2015

JFK: Through December 24 at JFK International Airport’s Terminal 7, travelers whose flights are delayed can win prizes through the “Delight my Delay” campaign. Don’t forget, you’ll also be able to pet some of the stress reducing therapy dogs during your airport visit. Woof!

PHL: At Philadelphia International Airport, carolers could be heard, and Santa’s “Ho ho ho” was not far behind. Not to mention the fact that a number of “Secret Santas” were walking the terminals, handing out free gifts targeted at military personnel.

FAT: Fresno Yosemite International Airport in Northern California set up a winter wonderland display featuring a snow-covered forest replete with Christmas tree, and a gingerbread village that reportedly was the area’s largest (Video care of the Fresno Bee).

DEN: Denver International Airport set up live music in the arriving passengers area, so that guests waiting for their loved one’s to arrive could relax and get in the holiday spirit. Lounge seating and cabaret tables were also set up in the center of the Great Hall. You can check out more airport festivities and DEN airport offerings on the tripchi airport app or the tripchi blog with DEN #layovertips.

DCA and IAD: At Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles Airport, you would have been able to snag a free gift with purchase of $100 or more at airport shops and restaurants. The free gift isn’t amazing, but at least it continues the airport festivities spirit – it’s a hand-painted commemorative Washington, D.C. ornament.

Also at DCA, a photo booth (where you could pose for free) made an appearance, as well as visits by Santa, strolling musicians, carolers and entertainers completed the airport festivities, with a few performances by local bands and choirs.

In fact, at HMS Host airports like IAD (which tripchi also covers here in this blog), HMS Host put on an “Instant Stocking Stuffer Sweepstakes” for airport restaurant customers. Through December 31, 2015, if you made a purchase at an HMSHost airport restaurant, you can still text the code found on your receipt to be entered to win. Prizes include free airfare and others gifts that will make your holiday season (more) bright. This sweepstakes ran at airports like Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando.

HMS Host holiday “elves” also were dispatched to several U.S. airports to surprise travelers with free gifts. The gifts included electronics, candy, travel accessories, holiday tschotskes, Coca-Cola drinks and free nights at Four Points hotels.

ORD and MDW: If you passed through Chicago, maybe you partook in the free hot cocoa being served? There were also holiday photo booths set up so you could glamour to your heart’s content in the airport festivities.

DFW: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport handed out free Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards in its terminal and parking lots. And for those travelers that don’t like Dunkin coffee, free Starbucks was also given to airport valet customers. Yum!

SEA: At Seattle Tacoma International Airport, elves, Frosty, fairies and other costumed creatures set about the airport, bringing joy to all.

SIN: Of course Changi Airport didn’t want to miss out of the airport festivities fun. As one of the best airport in the world, SIN always puts up a spectacle for all holidays, Christmas included – you can read more about things to do in Changi on this tripchi blog. Check out this video of the airport festivities being set up!
